Systems and Networks Reading Group

Objectives

The reading group is a platform for students interested in learning and discussing topics/methods necessary to study various systems-related research problems. It aims to provide a platform to accumulate the knowledge essential for young aspirants to initiate a simple research problem.

We are always looking for hardworking, sincere and passionate learners who are interested to continue in the reading group for a longer period. We prefer students joining the reading group between second and third semesters at NSU.

  • Qualities and Criteria We Look For in Prospective Reading Group Students

    • Attitude (over aptitude) for now at the budding stage; it is an essential quality for any learner

    • Passionate to go by Richard P. Feynman quote “I learned very early the difference between knowing the name of something and knowing something”

    • Should be willing to spend time in doing programming/scripting in C, Python, Matlab or other languages as needed

    • Should be a voracious reader to stay abreast of scientific advancements

    • Should be a self-motivated learner

Topics of Interest

Stipulated Activities

  • Focus would be more on learning tools/concepts that are useful to analyze various systems and networks.

  • Study and discuss relevant research papers through individual reading assignments.

How to Join

  • Interested students should complete (with good standing) at least majority (if not all) of courses, such as CSE 115, CSE 173, MATH 120, MATH 125 before expressing his or her interest by sending an e-mail to shahriar.karim@northsouth.edu

  • Mention “reading group” in the subject of the e-mail. Please do not forget to add your resume along with the other information as requested.

  • You will be communicated for further interview only if there are opennings in the reading group.
