The team that succeeded to win the title of the day was “Smart Home System Design” and the team members are- Tanvir Mahtab Uddin, Fahim Ahmed Kafi, Israt Jahan Tamanna. The 1st runners-up position went to “A novel design of robotic helping hand with multi DOF for paralyzed Patients” and the team members are Joyeta Saha, Nixon Dutta, Faysal Sarkar; The second runners-up teams were respectively- “Conserve and Reserve: A new approach to home automation and bill management system” and the team members are Md. Shahriyar Kabir, Tasnuva Khan Dia, Zaid Farzan Chowdhury and Muntasir al Khaledunnabi and “A low cost and portable ECG Machine.” And the team members are- Rafael Hossain Rakin, Asad Siam, Md. Rafayet Hossain.
Being part of world’s largest computing society ACM (Association for Computing Machinery), NSU ACM Students Chapter has successfully ended it’s “NSU ACM SC Innovation Challenge Season – 4” on April 18th, 2018.
This event was jointly organized by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, North South University and NSU ACM student Chapter and powered by Int. placement for Education – IPE, supported by GP-ACCELERATOR, one of the countries forefront organization in supporting start-ups from youngsters. Also,’NEWS24’ was its electronic media partner, KALER KANTHA was the print media partner, TORONGONEWS.COM was the online media partner and Radio Foorti was the Radio partner.
At this project showcase, the final year students of Electrical and Computer Engineering department, NSU, formally demonstrate their projects as a part of their coursework. Out of all the teams of final year students presenting their projects just as a graded task, 54 teams took the courage to compete in Innovation challenge with their product. These teams faced the judges of Innovation Challenge and through a formal and fair competition; teams winning the top three positions got rewarded according to the declared token of appreciation from the hosting organizations. Along with the prize money of BDT 12000/=, 8000/= and 5000/=, the winning teams are promised to receive GP-In house training and will be given priority in GP Accelerator Start-Up later on.
The respected judges for ‘IC4 Project Showcase’ were – Dr. Ahsanur Rahman. Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, North South University, Dr. Abdul Matin, Associate Professor, ECE. Mr. Sohel Rana, Specialist GP Accelerator.
The event was scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on 18th April 2018. It was a day for the creative people to showcase their talent and passion through their projects. The judges marked each of the project based on following criteria – innovation, sustainability and complete presentation. This judgment genre provided a fair platform for the competing teams and it ended up selecting the best projects in-house.
Out of all these projects, The prize giving ceremony started with the welcome speech by Dr. Shazzad Hossain, Chairman, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, NSU. The Pro- VC of North South University, Dr. G U Ahsan and Dr. Arshad M Chowdhury, Dean, School of Engineering and Physical Sciences were also present in the ceremony. In this session, two of the successful companies “Cramstack” and “Barikoi” run by alumni of Department of ECE, NSU were awarded the special recognition award. The Chief Guest was A K M Khairul Alam, Director General, Department of ICT, Government of the people’s republic of Bangladesh, who gave an encouraging speech to all the participants highlighting the importance of this innovative event. The event ended with a vote of thanks from Mr. Zunayeed Bin Zahir, Lecturer, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, NSU and Faculty Advisor of NSU ACM Student Chapter, thanked everyone for coming and talked about NSU being the pioneer in bringing such project-based initiative as a course for the students in Bangladesh, he also talked about the importance of having such initiatives and how they help in the long run.
NSU ACM SC is glad to be the organizer behind this great initiative for the engineering students of NSU and is promised to keep this tradition going on in the coming days.
