North South University problem solver community provides an opportunity to get trained on algorithms and data structures, programming problem solving skills and to prepare them for national and international programming contests. The training is conducted by a Coach and former prominent members of the community. The year-round practice contests involve intra-community contests with challenging problem-sets. Best performing students earn their spot in teams that represent North South University in various national and international contests.


ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (abbreviated as ACM-ICPC or just ICPC) is an annual multitier competitive programming competition among the universities of the world. The contest is supported by IBM. Headquartered at Baylor University, with autonomous regions on six continents, the ICPC is directed by Baylor Professor William B. Poucher, Executive Director, and operates under the auspices of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).

The ICPC is a team competition and during the contest, each team comprising of 3 contestants with one coach, the teams are given 5 hours to solve between 10 and 12 programming problems. Every year from this Dhaka regional contest, top one or two teams receive ticket to World Finals.


North South University qualified for International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) by Association for Computing Machinery in the years 1998 and 2009. ICPC is considered to be the oldest and most prestigious programming competition in the world. In 2015, a team from North South University secured first place in a national level contest (SUB IUPC 2015) – the first time for any private university to secure the position.
