Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at North South University (NSU).

Whether you are a prospective or current student, a faculty candidate, a parent, an alumnus, a representative from government or industry, or simply a curious visitor, we warmly invite you to explore our dynamic and forward-thinking department. Here, you will find comprehensive information about our undergraduate and graduate programs, our faculty members, their diverse research interests, and the wide range of academic, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities we offer.

I truly believe the ECE Department is one of the most vibrant, innovative, and future-oriented academic units at North South University. Since its establishment in 1993—with just a handful of students and a single undergraduate program in Computer Science—we have grown into NSU’s one of the largest academic departments. Today, we proudly serve over 6,500 undergraduate and 200 graduate students, supported by 54 full-time and 35 part-time or visiting faculty members. This extraordinary growth is a testament to our unwavering commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and relevance in an ever-evolving technological landscape.

Our educational approach emphasizes student-centered, practice-oriented, and outcome-based learning. We are dedicated to preparing our students for success in the emerging fields of the 21st century. To that end, we continue to invest in cutting-edge teaching facilities, research laboratories, and the recruitment of globally accomplished faculty—many of whom hold advanced degrees (MS and/or PhD) from leading institutions in the USA, Canada, the UK, Japan, and Australia.

In particular, NSU has built a strong reputation in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), with active research centers such as the NIRO Lab and the Machine Intelligence (MI) Lab. These labs offer exciting opportunities for faculty and student research in areas like machine learning, computer vision, and robotics.

The department is proud to be accredited by the Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Technical Education (BAETE), Bangladesh, with mutual recognition under the Washington Accord—ensuring our degrees meet international engineering education standards.

Our students thrive both inside and outside the classroom. They contribute to scientific publications, excel in national competitions, and actively participate in co-curricular initiatives. To support these efforts, we foster vibrant, student-led forums like the ACM and IEEE Student Branches, which promote leadership, collaboration, and innovation.

We offer BSc and MSc degrees across three closely related and complementary disciplines: Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), and Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (ETE). Hosting these synergistic fields within a single department creates a rich environment for interdisciplinary learning, collaboration, and research.

North South University is widely recognized as one of Bangladesh’s premier research institutions. According to the 2025 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, NSU is ranked joint #1 in Bangladesh and placed in the 801–1000 global band, with a position of 351–400 in Asia. The 2025 QS World University Rankings also place NSU in the 901–950 bracket—the highest among private universities in the country.

We take great pride in our global alumni network, whose members have gone on to make meaningful contributions in academia, industry, entrepreneurship, and public service. NSU continues to attract top faculty and professional, many returning from abroad—who are committed to driving national progress and technological innovation.
