Biography
Dr. Shafin Rahman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at North South University, where he leads the Machine Intelligence Lab (MILab) and is a member of Apurba-NSU R&D Lab. A specialist in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, and AI, Dr. Rahman bridges the gap between high-level theoretical research and robust industrial applications.
His academic journey is marked by excellence, including a Ph.D. from the Australian National University (ANU), where his pioneering work on Zero-shot Learning earned the university-wide Best Ph.D. thesis award (J.G. Crawford Prizes) and an M.Sc. from the University of Manitoba, Canada. He holds an undergraduate degree from BUET. Before his tenure in academia, Dr. Rahman served as a Senior Software Engineer at Samsung R&D Institute, Bangladesh, a role that continues to inform his practical approach to solving complex engineering problems. Today, he is a prolific researcher (regularly publishing in conferences like CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, EMNLP, ICDM, and journals like TIP, TMM, TNNLS, TMLR, TAI, IJCV, etc.) and a respected reviewer for top-tier venues, dedicated to mentoring the next generation of engineers and advancing the global landscape of machine intelligence.
