Augmented Reality (AR) is a technology that superimposes a virtual world on a user?s real world. Augmented Reality applications are implemented by using either marker-based technology or marker-less technology. For years, marker-based AR and Virtual Reality (VR) have been used in games, education sectors, web, and mobile environment. This paper introduces the exploration of Marker-less Mobile AR application for furniture and home decor e-commerce purposes which enables increased interaction between users and products as well as flexibility. Both marker based and marker-less AR technologies allow the consumer to virtually visualize the product features but the probability of recommending the displayed brand is higher under Marker-less (gesture-based recognition) AR than the Marker-based (tangible) AR mainly due to its portability options and no necessity of a marker that needs to be moved all around the house. Marker-less AR applications recognize objects that were not predefined. It is a much preferable method of image recognition as compared to marker-based AR with a larger capacity for images and also being completely non-invasive. As there is no predefined image target on the app, during runtime the app has to analyze different variables in the camera frame to trigger AR actions. This is done using a technology called SLAM (Simultaneous Location And Mapping), which can actively detect walls, floors and other physical barriers in space to detect ground plane and the app is developed in Unity3D. With the help of this app, a user can virtually decorate their room by navigating the furniture or home decor that aren?t actually there, to see if the color, size, and outlook of the product goes well with their interior.
