Biography
Syeda Sarita Hassan has been working as a Core Full Time Faculty Member at North South University (NSU) in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) since May 2018. She has achieved her Master’s degree in Communications Engineering (Major in Radio Communications) from Aalto University (former Helsinki University of Technology) in Finland with Distinction. Sarita worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Department of Electronics & Communications Engineering at East West University (EWU) prior to her Master’s degree in Finland. After returning to the country, she worked as a Lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB). Presently, she is also working as the Lab Coordinator for the ECE Department, overseeing the management of all hardware and software labs. She has been actively involved in the recruitment process, arranging interviews and contributing to the selection of qualified lab instructors and lab officers. Sarita’s contributions have extended to institutional development efforts as well, as she has provided significant support during BAETE and other accreditation-related activities by preparing documentation, organizing lab rooms, and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards. Presently, she is teaching two major courses, namely Electrical Circuits and Analog Electronics, at NSU. Her current research focuses on Photonics and Metamaterials.
Research Areas
Research Interests
My research interests lie at the intersection of Optics & Photonics, with emphasis on Quantum Photonics, Metamaterials, and Metasurfaces. I am particularly focused on graphene-based ultra-broadband (UV–NIR) hyperbolic metamaterials, metamaterial absorbers spanning millimeter-to-nanometer wavelength ranges, and multifunctional metasurface platforms for sweat sensing, energy harvesting, biomedical photonics, and laser-enabled applications.
