Biography

Shaikh Shawon Arefin Shimon (SAS3) joined North South University in Summer 2020 as a Full-time faculty of Computer Science in Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE). After graduating with a B.Sc in CSE from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET) in 2011 – he spent nearly 10 years in the Software Industry and Academia in various roles. Before joining as a faculty in NSU – shimon worked in the industry in various software engineering roles in places like Keysight Technologies (USA) & Samsung Electronics (Asia). He also spent time as a graduate research assistant in Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO USA for 2 years – working in Mobile Interaction / HCI area in Ruiz Lab under supervision of Dr. Jaime Ruiz. During this time, he published & presented first author conference papers at CHI 2016 (San Jose, CA) and MobileHCI 2015 (Copenhagen, Denmark). He also worked occasionally as a teaching assistant during his time at ColoState.

Shimon’s research interest focuses on Mobile Interaction, Augmented and Virtual Reality, HCI, Software Engineering and Software Development process. Shimon is well experienced in Agile SCRUM/XP/Kanban, Incremental / RAD / V-model Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Software Version Controlling, Software Project Management / Bug tracking / Quality Assurance process, and well-acquainted with Continuous Integration / Deployment (CI/CD) & build automation process.

Shimon previously received best employee award at SRBD for SW development work on Samsung Rex 70 Middle East Asia (MEA) release in 2013.

Shimon obtained a M.S in Computer Science (CS) from Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado USA in 2016 and a B.Sc in Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) from BUET, Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2011.
