Biography

Dr. Arshad M. Chowdhury is currently working as Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at North South University, Dhaka, Bangladesh.   His research interests include  converged optical wireless access using radio-over-fiber technology, very high throughput  wireless access  at 60GHz mm-wave band, spectral efficient modulation and ultra-high bit rate (100G) optical transport systems, signal processing in optical coherent transmission,  next generation TDM/WDM based passive access network, optical packet switching and optical label switching technology, optical-wireless interconnections for high-speed computing and server systems.

Prior to joining NSU, Dr. Chowdhury worked as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow/Research Engineer-II at the Optical Network Research Laboratory in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology from January 2007 to December 2010. From 1999 to 2002, he worked as a Research Scientist in the Optical Internetworking Research division at Telcordia Technologies (formerly Bell Communication Research), Red Bank, NJ, where he was actively involved with DARPA initiated next-generation internet (NGI) optical label switching and ATD/MONET projects. From 1995 to 1997, he served as a Lecturer in the department of Computer Science and Engineering at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet, Bangladesh.

Dr. Chowdhury has been granted 15 U.S. patents and co-authored more than 90 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers. He is an active reviewer of IEEE Photonic Technology Letters, Journal of Lightwave Technology, OSA Journal of Optical Communications and Networking.
